What a wonder relief finding Ted Kerasote's enlightening book Merle's Door. Most of my life I have had guilt feelings about my tendency toward Anthropomorphism as it relates to my dogs. I have secretly held knowing conversations with all of my dogs for years hoping I would never be found out and perhaps institutionalized. But, now having met Ted and Merle it is all good.
What a revealing experience reading this book. I have bred and trained dogs for over a half-century, but until now I could never justify relating to my dogs on human terms. Today it is alright thanks to this book that is not only entertaining, but delves into some most illuminating aspects of dog behavior and canine intelligence. If you to, want to feel exonerated from your clandestine and furtive liaison with your dog you can be absolved from holding secret conversation with your canine friend with the reassurances of this daring author.
